05-19-2019 – Keith Cozort – God Is Not Mocked – (PM Sermon)
Open your Bibles with me, if you will, to Galatians chapter six, Galatians chapter six, the book of Galatians, the apostle Paul is the writer of course, writing to the churches in the region of glacier. Glacier was not a city. It was a region and it was a region in Asia, minor or Asia there in what we know of as Turkey today,
much like the seven churches of Asia and Paul, as he is closing out his epistle here in chapter six in verses seven and eight, he says, be not deceived. God is not mocked for whatsoever a man. So with that, shall he also reap for he that? So with, to his flesh, shall of the obvious of the flesh reap corruption,
but he even sew it to the spirit shall of the spirit reap life. Everlasting. Paul says it is possible to be deseed. In fact, it’s possible for us to deceive ourselves, but he calls upon these Galatians brethren be not deceived. Why? Because God is not mocked. The word is translated. Mocked here carries with it. The idea of be to treat with contempt.
God will not be treated with contempt. And especially by those that are his children. Paul is writing to the church, to the churches in the region of glacier. He is writing to the Christians in this area and he tells them be not deceived. God is not mocked for whatsoever. A man soweth that shall he also reap we’re living in a day in time and have been for many,
many years is most of us recognize anyway, but we’re living in a day and time when every everyone feels like they have a right to do what they want to do, they have a right to do their own thing. As they say, sometimes we hear people say, no one has the right to tell me what to do, or maybe they hold to the idea of that.
It’s my life I’ll do with it. What I want. Certainly even those people that may not actually say the words many times are living the lines that express that very idea, but it is truly sad when sometimes those are members of the church. Those are ones who are supposed to be examples to the world on what is all about. Those are ones who are living Like the world yet claiming to be separated from the world.
I want us to think this evening about this idea of God is not. And in order to Really contemplate this, we have to understand there’s a universal law that is governing Man’s life. And that universal law is that which Paul speaks about right here whatsoever. A man. So with that, shall he also read, We will reap what we sow. You look in the Vegetation kingdom and you see that to be the case.
You plant corn, you expect to rink corn. If you sow wheat, you expect to wheat are reap wheat. If you sow soybeans, you expect to reap soybeans and on and on it goes, and we understand that’s the natural process. You reap what you sow. Well, the same thing is true in the animal kingdom, In that yeah, Everything produces after its own kind.
As we read about in Genesis chapter one. And so you expect cows to give birth to calves. You expect horses to give birth to Colts. You expect silos to give birth to piglets. We reap what we sold. Same thing is true in the human kingdom. I separate this off from the animal kingdom. We in science anyway are included in the animal kingdom,
but we are not animals. We are different from the animals. And therefore we are not part of that kingdom. Even though sometimes we may act like animals, But we are Not of that, man is not in animal. And therefore we expect humans to give birth to babies, baby humans. We sold what we reap Same. Thing’s true in the spiritual kingdom,
That The kind of life that we live now We’ll do Terman or at least help to determine what we are going to reap internally, Spiritually speaking, The universal law governing man’s whole life is Reap. What we sold. Some people are deceived. They think They can muck God. As Paul talks about here in this passage, they think they can. So one thing and reap something else.
And again, And remember, he’s not writing to the world here. He’s writing to the church. He’s writing to brethren in making this point to them. Sometimes We’ve heard the statement made concerning teenagers anyway, but it doesn’t just apply to teenagers, certainly, but somewhat to. So their wild oats and then pray for a crop failure. And generally most,
all the time that never happens. If a person Christian is going to Live like the devil six days out of the week, and think that by attending service on Sunday, that’s going to make it all. Okay? Okay. He’s deceiving himself. He is Trying to say I can. So one thing and reap something else. And the fact of the matter is it doesn’t happen that way.
Again, sometimes people say, this is my life I can do with it, whatever I want to well, to a certain degree, that’s, that’s true. It is your life you can do with it, what you want to, but you have to understand that. According to what God says, you will reap what you sow because he is not mocked.
God cannot be mocked. You can look at various examples and we’re going to look at a few examples anyway, but you can look at Adam and Eve go all the way back to the beginning. Genesis chapter three In Genesis chapter three, of course, This is where the serpent is going to tempt Eve To eat The fruit that God said not to eat the fruit of the knowledge of Evil and Beginning in verse three,
we’d read from the fruit of the tree, which is in the midst of the garden. God has said, you shall not eat of it. Neither shall you touch it. Lest you die. This is Eve’s explanation to the serpent, by the way. And the serpent said unto the woman, you shall not surely die for God death. No, in that in the day that you eat thereof,
then your eyes shall be opened. And he shall be as gods knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes and a tree to be desired, to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof and did eat and gave also unto her husband with her. And he did eat and the eyes of them both were open and they knew that they were naked and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons.
God had instructed them not to eat of this tree of knowledge of good and evil. And that in the day they ate of it, they would surely die. Somebody says, well, see, here it is, God lied to them. They didn’t die. Yes they did. They died spiritually. They became separated from God because of sin. Paul in Romans chapter five refers to this very passage.
When he says there in verse 12 of that chapter, he says wherefore as by one man, sin entered into the world and death by sin. And so death passed upon all men for that all have sinned sin entered into the world by one man. He says, I wonder who that was. And of course that was Adam. Adam is held accountable for that particular action.
Even though sin Eve was the first one to sin yet, Adam was the one who was given the instruction. And the indication seems to be, at least that Adam was there when Eve did this and he didn’t stop it. You can notice concerning King Ahab, the King of Israel and go to first Kings chapter 21, Remember For a Hab was the King who wanted to have boss vineyard and boss would not give nor sell the vineyard.
There was hard up to the palace right next to the palace to the King because it was part of his inheritance and Ahab being the mighty man that he was went home and cried and salt about his bed. He threw a temper temper tantrum like a two year old would do or a three-year-old old or a four year old Or whatever. His wife, Jessica Bell comes in and asks him what the problem is.
And he tells her what his problem is. And she says, I’ll take care of it. And she did. She could Inspired whereby to throw this feast and to have all these important people to come and neighbors to come and then had these two false accusers to stand up and to rebuke him because he blasphemed God interesting how that Jessebelle would know that somebody blasts him And he’s taken out and he stoned to death.
And then Ahab is able to receive the property here in chapter 21, beginning with verse 19. Notice what it says and now shall speak, undo him saying thus sayeth the Lord, hashed out killed, and also taken possession and thou shalt speak unto him saying thus saith the Lord in the place where the dogs lick the blood of neighbor shall dogs licked die,
blood even nine. And Ahab said to Elijah hast thou found me, Oh, mine enemy. And he answered. I have found the because now has sold by self to work evil in the sight of the Lord. Behold, I will bring evil upon the, and we’ll take away the posterity and we’ll cut off from Ahab him that piss it against the wall and him that is shut up and left and Israel,
and we’ll make the in house like the house of Jeroboam the son of ne bad. And like the house of Bay Isha, the son of a hijab, and for the provocation where with thou has provoked me to anger and made Israel to sin. And of Jessebelle also speak the Lord saying the dog shall eat. Jessebelle by the wall of Jezreel him, that dieth of Ahab in the city of,
in the city, the dog shall eat and him that dieth in the field, shove the fowls of the air, Eat promise that God makes To Ahab for his rebellion against the law, but also mocking God by his behavior and his allowing of Jessebelle to mock his behavior or his law and his commandments. When you turn over to second Kings chapter nine, Nine Chapter 22,
verse 38, by the way, just tells us that what God said concerning Ahab takes place. That where the dogs licked up neighbors, blood. There, they look up a Habs blood as well with his death. But in chapter nine of second Kings verses 30 through 37, we read. And when G Hugh was come to Jezreel, Jezza bell heard of it.
And she painted her face and teared her head and looked out at a window. And as G who entered it in at the gate. And she said, had Zimride peace, who slew his master? And he lifted up his face to the window and said, who is on my side? Who? And there looked out to him two or three Unix.
And he said, throw her down. So they threw her now. And some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall and on the horses. And he trolled her under foot. And when he was come in, he did eat and drink and said, go see now this cursed woman and bury her for she is a King’s daughter. And they went to bury her,
but they found North no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands, wherefore, they again, and told him, and he said, this is the word of the Lord, which he spake by the servant, Elijah. The Tishbite saying in the portion of Jezreel shell dogs eat the flesh of Jezza rebel. And the carcass of Jezza bell shall be as dung upon the face of the field and the portion of Jezreel so that they shall not say,
this is Jessie rebel. Here. We have concerning G U G, who is not a good man, but G who was told by God what it was that he was supposed to do. And he is to eliminate the household of Ahab. And that is exactly what he is going to do. But speed’s concerning the fact that what Elijah said concerning Jessebelle has now come true as well,
That she, That her body would be eaten by the dogs. And it was those who attempted to mock God were those who reaped what they sold. You can come to the new Testament with Judas There and in Matthew chapter 26, which we noted extensively this morning from at least a few verses anyway, But here where The disciples are gathered together for the last supper and chapter 26 verses 20 through 25.
We read Now when the even was come, he sat down with the 12 and as they did eat, he said, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. And they were exceeding sorrowful and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I, and he answered and said, he, the dip,
his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. The son of man go with, as it is written of him. But woe unto the man that man by whom the son of man is betrayed. It had been good for that, man, if he had not been born then Judas, which betrayed him answered and said, master is at eye.
He said unto him, thou has said. And then of course, when you turn over to chapter 27, Jesus having already been betrayed and having been found guilty, even though he was guilty of nothing, but in Matthew chapter 27, beginning with verse three and going down through verse 10, then Judas, which had betrayed him when he saw that he was condemned,
repented him self and brought again, the 30 pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders saying, I have sin in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, what is that to us? See that to that. And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed and went and hanged himself. And the chief priest took the silver pieces and said,
it is not lawful for, to put them into the treasury because it is the price of blood. And they took counsel and bought with them. The Potter’s field to bury strangers in wherefore, that field was called the field of blood under this day, then was fulfilled that, which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet say, and they took the 30 pieces of silver that the price of him that was valued,
whom they, of the children of Israel did value and gave them for the Potter’s field as the Lord appointed me. And so here it is that Judith Again, fulfilling scripture. Okay. Yeah. And he betrays Jesus for this 30 pieces of silver. And then when he sees that Jesus is convicted, All of a sudden it dawns on him, evidently what he’s really done.
And so he wants to give the money back. He doesn’t want to have any part of it. And yet the priest said, we can’t take it back. We won’t take it back. And he throws it down at their feet. And then he goes out and he’s going to hang himself. They’re going to take that money to buy the Potter’s field,
where it is that he hung himself. And it will be known as the Potter’s field from then on. You probably heard me state at other times, I’m firmly convinced. Judas did not believe Jesus was going to be convicted of anything. He knew Jesus. He’s been with him for three and a half years. Now he knows his character. He knows his way of life.
He’s just evidently looking for easy money. John tells us that he was the keeper of the bag and that he was a thief. And therefore, the idea seemingly is he was just looking for easy money, turned Jesus over to them. They’re not going to find anything wrong with him, not going to be able to convict him of anything. And therefore I’ve got 30 pieces of,
But he did. I didn’t understand just how bad they wanted Jesus and how determined they were to get rid of Jesus. And when he is there and he hears that Jesus is pronounced guilty, he comes to the realization of what he has done and cannot stand himself, Reaped. What he sold. You can turn over to acts chapter five and you can read concerning Anna niacin Safira after the church has been established.
There have been those at the end of chapter four, like Barnabas, who had pieces of property and they sold those properties, gave the money to the apostles to help those who were in need because they are still in Jerusalem. The multitude of those disciples that were converted on the day of Pentecost in acts, chapter two are still here and therefore they’re in need of assistance.
So with these funds, they’re able to help those who are in need, but a certain man named Anna Niaz was Safira his wife sold the possession and kept part of that, of the price. His wife also been privy to it and brought a certain part and laid it at the Apostle’s feet. Then Peter said, adenitis YF, Satan filled dine heart to lie to the Holy ghost and to keep back part of the price of the land.
Why was it remained? Was it not that I known? And after it was sold, was it not in nine owned power? Why has thou conceived this thing in nine heart? Now it’s not lied in the men, but under God. And I, and, and I, as hearing these words fell down and gave up the ghost and great fear came on,
all them that heard these things and the young men of Rose wound him up and carried him out and buried him. And it was about the space of three hours after when his wife not knowing what was done, came in and Peter answered unto her, tell me whether you sold the land for so much. And she said, yay, for so much.
And then Peter said unto her, how is it that he have agreed together to tempt the spirit of the Lord? The whole defeat of them, which have buried thy husband are at the door and shall carry the out, then fell she down straightway at his feet and yielded up the ghost. And the young men came in and found her dead and carrying her forth,
buried her with her or by her husband. They lied, lied to the Holy spirit thinking. Evidently they were only lying to man. And yet, as Peter brings out here, they’ve in fact lied to God. They sold the piece of property, which they were not obligated to do. They were not bound to do. They gave part of the money to the apostles to use.
They were not bound to give all of the money or even any of the money. But when they gave a portion of it, they said that this was all of it. And God is going to make the point with the brethren in the early church. He does not accept why. Okay? And they are both going to die. As a result of that,
God cannot be mocked. What are some reasons why God cannot be mocked? There are several, But certainly one of those is that God is omnipotent Is Omnipotence being all powerful. You go back to Genesis chapter 17. And in verse one, God says to Abraham, I am the almighty God. I am. There is nothing that is stronger than what God is.
He is all powerful. Jesus will even stay to Matthew chapter 19. And in verse 26, that with God, all things are possible. And certainly that is there are conditions placed upon even that statement, all things are possible that are within the realm of God’s nature. Somebody says, I want God to build or to make a rock that is so big.
That rock, that God can’t lift it. Well, that’s a logical contradiction. It’s not within God’s nature to do that kind of thing. But with God, Jesus says, all things are Possible. Not only is he Is omnipotence referred to, but also his omnipresence. He is at every place everywhere. All at the same time, When God, God is watching over us here at mountain Grove,
Missouri, he’s also watching over brethren on the other side of the world. Any part of the world that of course is mind boggling to us because we are limited by time and space, but God is not. And so with God, he is present at all places all at the same time and with such, he is able to hear what everyone says,
but also knows what everyone thinks without even speaking. He didn’t, there’s also his omniscience in that he is all knowing all, knowing, remember Genesis chapter three, we read there concerning Adam and Eve and their sin that they committed there. If you go on and you read there in that chapter, God comes to walk with them as he has done previously.
And he calls for them and he says, where are you Now? God knew where they were. Okay. He’s not asking for information. He knows exactly where they were. What he is wanting man to do is to examine himself as to where, why he is in this situation. And That’s exactly what God is calling upon Adam and Eve to do where art thou Turn Over to chapter four,
verse nine, again and there, God says to Cain, where is Abel thy brother? God knows where Abel is. God knows what Cain has done, but he is calling upon Cain to examine him Self concerning his own actions and putting his brother to death. God’s omniscience That it demonstrates that God cannot be mocked. Finally is all sufficiency. He is Able to give us all the blessings we need and all the blessings that we can appreciate Turn over to Matthew chapter 10,
if you would, Matthew chapter 10 verses 28 through 31, Jesus says and fear, not them which killed the body, but are not able to kill the soul, but rather fear him, which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell are not two sparrows sold for a farther and one of them. So not fall on the ground without your father,
but the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 fear eating up there four year of more value than many sparrows. Jesus makes the point, The God watches over the sparrows. And it is such that Man is of more value than even the sparrows to show. Just how much God knows about us and is concerned about us and knows every aspect about us.
Jesus says he even knows the number of hairs on your head. Jokingly. We’ve stated with some people that doesn’t take very much, but he knows the very number of hairs on our head. He knows us that intimately each and every one of us, you think concerning the number of the people that are in the world today approaching 8 billion. And yet he knows every single one,
you all sufficiency of God, Peter And second Peter chapter one. And in verse three, as he is opening, his letter says in verse three, according as his divine power has given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness through the knowledge of him that have called us to glory and virtue, he has given us everything that we need. All things that pertain and to life and godliness,
there is nothing that has been left out. There is nothing that has been left for a latter day revelation. He’s given Unto us everything because he is all sufficient. God is not mocked. And so in closing, let me ask you this. What kind of seed are you sewing? We’re not talking as far as the vegetable kingdom is concerned. We’re not talking as far as the animal kingdom is concerned.
We’re not even talking concerning the human kingdom, but spiritually. What kind of seed are you sowing? What kind of seed are you passing on to the next generation or the generation after that or the generation after that? Are you deceiving yourself? Paul says, be not deceived. God is not mocked. It doesn’t matter your age. It doesn’t matter concerning your intellect.
It doesn’t matter concerning your standing in society. Every single one of us is influencing someone else. Question is, are we influencing them for good and righteousness? Or are we influencing them for evil and unrighteousness? God is not mocked. We shall reap what we’ve. So if you are one who is outside the body of Christ this evening, we plead with you to consider these things and to consider what Paul says and what the rest of the Bible writers say concerning the fact that we are going to be held accountable for our actions.
And therefore we plead with you to obey the gospel. If you have not already done that, having heard the word to believe it, to be willing, to repent and to confess your faith in Christ, willing to be immersed in water in order to be saved from your sins to have your sins washed away by putting your Lord on in baptism. If you’re already a member of the body of Christ,
but you’ve turned back, you’ve gone back into the world. Please, will you come back and repentance, praying to God for forgiveness? Will you come back and stop trying to mock God repenting of your sins and praying to God for forgiveness. If we can help you, please, will you come as together? We stand and as we sing.
